  On Lvxiao

"Lvxiao (lvxiao.com) is an open artistic group that anyone can join. You are part of Lvxiao if you leave a message here, or participate in a Lvxiao gathering or exhibition." This is the introduction phrase of

the Lvxiao website. There is nothing that excites this young generation more. And, many people leave messages, and, many people join the artistic group. Lvxiao is a self-driven young artistic group that uses the internet platform. They practice to make art for the mass with the open and democratic nature of their group, at the same time stressing for the responsibility that art has for society. Many

members create art as non-occupational during their spear time to doubt the aesthetic of traditional art. They disdain in vocational and professional status. There is no elitist standards, they have their

own ways of thinking and explaining art and life. They express them through making graphics, animation, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and other artistic means. This is a pure platform for exhibition and exchange, encouraging all young people interested in the art to participate and create their own work. There is full of love, equality, freedom, experimentation, innovation, and open spirit. After five years of development of this artistic group without restrains, people have come and left. Up to now Lvxiao includes nearly a hundred people from all over the country. They are designers, they are artists, they are ordinary office workers, students, even the unemployed. The regard Lvxiao as a spiritual home, many are unmet friends, many are friends with whom you can chat through the night. They are all friends of Lvxiao.

  On Graffiti

Graffiti, a scribble art which stemmed from "hip pop" culture has been controversial since its birth for it's rebel of tradition and political topics, leading people to question the legal and artistic legitimacy of this art form. The public considers graffiti as destructive to the urban environment, and graffiti youth as a dangerous crowd. With a large-scale graffiti art exhibition being held in the SoHo district of Manhattan in 1973 that attracted widespread media attention, to the collaboration of graffiti artist Harling and Andy Warhol, eventually graffiti art entered the hall of art museums. The young people from Lvxiao are surrounded with happiness, and they enjoy innovation. They are more accepting of new cultures and aesthetics in comparison to the traditional. Their graffiti did not start as a vent, nor is it a war declaration. The contents of these graffiti are not carefully planned, there is no intricate symbols of deformation, and there isn't any large chunks of beautiful colors. These graffiti practices are closer to the traditional Chinese spirit of simple lines drawn out of seemingly random brush. The cynical images carry the independent thinking of the Chinese young generation, who lives in a collision of Chinese and Western cultures. In comparison to the artists who are shouldering a heavy burden of revitalizing Chinese contemporary art, these free and non-occupational works are relaxed and true, for that there is no restraints.
